Georgia Chatbot Helps Residents Access Licensing Information

Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger introduced a new chatbot on October 8 that gives Georgians access to information on the secretary of state’s website; the Licensing Division of the Georgia Secretary of State enables users to apply and renew their licenses. According to the press release, GABBY, short for Georgia’s Automated Bot, Built for You, helps Georgians quickly find information on the secretary of state’s website, reducing time spent navigating multiple pages or calling the agency’s call center. “Georgians shouldn’t have to spend their time searching through a government website or waiting on the phone to get a simple question answered,” said Secretary Raffensperger. “GABBY puts information at Georgians’ fingertips and is another step toward making government more accessible, efficient, and responsive to the people we serve.” The launch of the GABBY chatbot represents an ongoing effort to modernize the Secretary of State’s Office and use technology to make government more accessible.

Arizona Barbering and Cosmetology Board Announces Body-Worn Cameras for Investigators

An October 6 press release from the Arizona Barbering and Cosmetology Board announced the agency’s new program to equip field investigators with body-worn cameras. According to the board, the BWCs help ensure greater safety, transparency and accountability. “Our investigators perform important work throughout Arizona, often in a variety of field environments,” explained Frank Migali, Executive Director. “Body-worn cameras provide an additional tool to support the safety of our investigators while promoting transparency and accountability in our regulatory process. The goal is to create an objective record that benefits everyone involved — our investigators, the professionals we regulate, and the public.” Under the new policy, authorized board investigators openly wear body-worn cameras during official fieldwork, including establishment inspections, complaint investigations, interviews with licensees and witnesses and compliance enforcement.

Utah Tests AI-Generated Prescriptions with Regulatory Oversight

A Utah AI pilot program, launched November 5, enables artificial intelligence to issue initial prescriptions under physician oversight. According to Becker’s Hospital Review, the program from Nolla Health in partnership with the Utah Office of Artificial Intelligence Policy and in consultation with the Utah Medical Licensing Board enables patients to get an acne treatment plan and prescription. The initiative showcases AI governance with the program involving different levels of physician oversight; a physician approves every prescription for the first 100 patients, for example. Other levels of oversight include a physician reviewing just a sampling of prescriptions each week.
