Report: Modern Technology Strengthens Child Safety Outcomes
A report from the Administration for Children and Families identifies how modernizing child welfare technologies improves child safety. Released in March, Modernizing Child Welfare Technologies and Tools: Opportunities for Predictive Risk Modeling to Improve Child Safety and Outcomes, makes the case for using automated predictive risk models with information already captured in case management systems. “They generate real-time risk classifications that are more accurate, more consistent, and far less resource-intensive than traditional manual tools.” The brief points to many child welfare agencies in the United States depending on manual tools to assess abuse and neglect, calling those time consuming, as well as prone to error. The report suggests integrating predictive risk modeling into the process to improve outcomes.
In addition, the ACF cites multiple use cases where jurisdictions use predictive risk modeling as a modernization strategy. These include:
- Allegheny County, Pennsylvania
- Arapahoe, Douglas, and Larimer Counties, Colorado
- Idaho (Statewide)
- Los Angeles County, California
Playbook: Free Staff for Higher-Value Regulatory Work
A new playbook, published by the General Services Administration, offers strategies for automating low-value tasks, while optimizing mission-critical work. The GSA’s June 3 guidebook provides a framework for change in government using multiple phases: opportunity assessment, solution and strategy design, implementing and sustaining plus tools and templates to help launch these initiatives. Phase 1, Opportunity Assessment, for example, starts with a coordinated group of change champions or “Change Coalition,” helping to align stakeholders and promote efficiency. Following that, the kickoff portion of phase 1 ensures that a clear strategy enables teams to set goals and priorities. The federal playbook, with a focus on improvement through elimination, optimization and automation, offers guidance for state and local governments looking for an organized process to increase operational efficiency.
How GovRAMP Supports Secure Technology Adoption
GovRAMP explores how proven security practices help organizations strengthen government technology while maintaining strict security standards. Building on Proven Foundations in GovRAMP Verification, published Aug. 17, highlights the value of shared knowledge and security foundations in supporting efficient verification processes. “The benefits of a connected security ecosystem extend beyond technology providers,” explains GovRAMP. “Government organizations need access to innovative solutions that can meet mission requirements while providing confidence in security and compliance.” According to GovRAMP, mature security frameworks increase access to trusted technologies; they also preserve the transparency and accountability needed to protect government systems and data.
