Ore. Teacher Disciplined for Zoom Conduct
Oregon’s licensing board has placed a teacher on probation for using Zoom technology to capture unapproved video of a female colleague. According to Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission disciplinary documents, Robin Chappell, who was employed by the Eugene School District, used Zoom to capture a 40-second video of a female colleague while she was demonstrating exercises to a gym class. The recording was done without her permission. Several of Chappell’s female colleagues also complained that he frequently made “meowing” sounds around them. On Nov. 5, the commission reprimanded Chappell and placed him on probation for four years.
Mich. Child Care Suspended after Child Placed in Dryer
Officials in Michigan have suspended the license of a family child-care home after discovering that one child had placed another in a clothes dryer and turned it on. According to state Licensing and Regulatory Affairs documents, licensee Kathleen Mayhue-Radeback lied about the incident during a licensing-bureau investigation. She also failed to notify the mother of the child placed in the dryer.
Self-Dealing La. Inspector Stripped of Licenses
A New Orleans city inspector who lied about his private plumbing work resigned Nov. 18 after his contractor’s licenses were revoked. According to WWL TV, Buddy Fraiche and colleagues in the city Sewerage and Water Board Plumbing Department had engaged in self-dealing involving permits they approved. On Nov. 18, the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors stripped Fraiche’s plumbing and mechanical licenses.
S.D. Gov.’s Daughter to Turn in Appraiser License Amid Probe
The daughter of South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem said Nov. 16 that she’ll turn in her appraiser’s license and leave the business by the end of the year. According to The Washington Post, the legislature’s Government Operations and Audit Committee is investigating the possibility that Noem pressured licensing officials during a July 2020 meeting to issue an appraiser certification to her daughter.
S.C. Teacher Put Pot Gummies in Classroom Prize Box
The South Carolina State Board of Education has suspended the license of a second-grade teacher who put marijuana gummies in her classroom prize box. According to WCBD, Victoria Weiss was arrested in September after one of her students asked a staffer at an after-school program to help open a package of gummies that looked like Sour Patch Kids. They weren’t.
