State Survey Results: AI Readiness and Data Quality
A survey of state chief information officers and chief data officers reveals the importance placed on quality data, the impact of that data on GenAI—as well as the challenges implementing a data quality program. The report from the National Association of State Chief Information Officers found that 95% of the respondents believe that AI and generative AI amplify the importance of data management. However, the survey notes that only 22% have an established data quality program. According to the September report, “the discrepancy between the recognized importance of data quality and the implementation of programs to safeguard it can be attributed to factors such as business drivers, budget limitations, lack of necessary skills, organizational awareness and other competing priorities.”
NY Cannabis Control Board Proposes Waiver for Dispensary Locations
The New York Cannabis Control Board voted to consider using a waiver to relax the distance requirements between dispensaries. Currently, dispensaries must not open stores within 1,000 feet of each other. The waiver enables retail licensees to open a store within that proximity, according to Syracuse.com on September 10. The Office of Cannabis Management’s Director of Policy John Kagia said, “the waiver process is intended to be limited, and used in specific circumstances that could justify allowing a dispensary to be more closely located than the distance outlined in regulations.”
Mass. to License Nonresident Pharmacies
The Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy announced a move to license nonresident pharmacies—and require one nonresident pharmacist to be licensed in the state. According to Holland and Knight on September 17, the change “marks a significant shift in how the board oversees out-of-state pharmacies that ship and dispense drugs into the state.” Because of the change in licensing rules, all pharmacies operating in the state must adhere to Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy standards.
