Hands-On AI Training Important for Regulatory Staff

As you start to integrate artificial intelligence into your state agency, a new study suggests the importance of hands-on AI training—plus defining key terms for your staff. Listening sessions with AI leaders, according to Route Fifty on April 3, revealed the importance of “baseline” training for all public sector employees. InnovateUS at the Burnes Center for Social Change at Northeastern University organized the listening sessions; the organization also provides a workshop series devoted to Artificial Intelligence for the Public Sector.

Iowa Barbers Form Coalition After Licensing Reform Bill Fails

Barbers in Iowa formed a coalition to help other barbers after a reform bill failed in the state; the bill aimed to help aspiring barbers train under licensed industry professionals. The  Institute for Justice calls Iowa’s barbering laws “some of the most burdensome laws for barbers in the country,” mandating 1,550 hours of schooling or 2,000 hours of apprenticeship. By comparison, the Institute for Justice found that the following require less training than barbers: emergency medical technicians, dental assistants and pharmacy technicians, for example.

Ariz. Lawmakers Advance Healthcare Compact Bills to Grow Workforce

To address healthcare workforce shortages, Arizona lawmakers advanced healthcare compact bills, according to State of Reform on April 8.  The Arizona House Committee on Health and Human Services met last month to discuss two compacts—the Social Work Licensure Compact and the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Compact. The APRN Licensure Compact, SB 1295, enables APRNs from other states to practice in Arizona.
