Cybersecurity Grant Update for States

States must likely wait several months before they receive funds from the cyber grant program. Leaders from the National Association of State Chief Information Officers and CompTIA’s Public Technology Institute shared their outlook at a biannual online briefing, according to StateScoop on January 23. The Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency plans to distribute $180 million in the first year of the program.

StateRAMP’s ‘Snapshot’ Gauges Security Readiness

StateRAMP’s new “Security Snapshot” tool helps assess the data security capabilities of cloud-solutions providers that sell to state government.  The tool shows states those providers that meet the StateRAMP security requirements. And the tool, according to GovTech, shows providers a snapshot of the security gaps they need to overcome to receive verified StateRAMP security status. StateRAMP, or the State Risk and Authorization Management Program, started in 2021 and aims to “promote cybersecurity best practices through education and policy development to improve the cyber posture of public institutions and the citizens they serve.”

Kan. Board Recommends Teacher Licensure Changes

A Kansas Board of Regents task force recommended several updates to teacher licensing to address a state-wide teacher shortage. A funding priority from the task force included paying for prospective teacher licensing costs; these range from $250-$450, according to the Topeka-Capital-Journal. Other ideas from the task force included teacher license reciprocity with other states, along with alternatives to teacher licensure exams.
