On Oct. 12, 2019, the upper  floors of the Hard Rock Hotel project in New Orleans collapsed, killing three construction workers. The subsequent investigation focused on the performance of the city’s Safety & Permits Department. Among the problems: At least two department employees appear not to have conducted key inspections they claimed they had.

Has an employee in your agency ever claimed to have conducted an inspection that never happened? Such deceit can be detected – and, better yet, discouraged – by the adoption of a mobile inspections app that tracks inspectors’ locations.

The public-safety consequences of falsified inspections are clear enough. In addition, missed inspections, when discovered, must be rescheduled. This creates additional work for your agency and its inspectors.

A mobile inspections app can help your agency operate more efficiently and protect the public more effectively.

Mobile app validates inspections

Here’s how a mobile app can help your agency validate that inspections actually occur when and where they’re supposed to:

GPS tags

GPS tagging ensures that inspectors perform work at specified locations. An app can tag all inspections with GPS coordinates when inspectors sign off.

Photo uploads

Inspectors can take photos and upload them along with inspection reports. The photos can be stamped electronically with GPS coordinates to demonstrate an inspector’s presence at the prescribed time and place.

Signature capture

A signature form in the mobile app captures a signature from the person in charge at the inspection.
