New Federal Grant Helps Public Health Agencies Modernize Data Systems
A $255 million federal program helps state and local public health agencies with data modernization projects. The Data Modernization Implementation Center program, funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, helps develop secure data exchanges among public health agencies, explains Jennifer Layden, director of the CDC’s Office of Public Health Data, Surveillance and Technology. Program leaders plan to share details on how to apply at a future date, according to Route Fifty on July 23.
Ga. Lawmakers Investigate Licensing Delays
Georgia lawmakers continue to investigate why Georgia professionals face licensing delays amid the state’s roll out of a new system, the Georgia Online Application Licensing System. The joint blue-ribbon committee met again to look into problems within the Secretary of State’s Professional Licensing Boards Division, according to State Affairs on July 25. According to Maggie Hastings, a representative from the Secretary of State’s Office, two-thirds of Georgia’s licensing boards still use the old system during the transition to the new system.
Law School Grads Could Earn License Through Work in Some States
While only Oregon offers law school graduates an alternative to the bar exam—through on-the-job training, other states plan to consider the option as well. According to Stateline on July 26, states considering comparable licensure options include Minnesota, Nevada, Utah and Washington, with Arizona, Texas and South Dakota showing interest in similar programs as well. Oregon Supreme Court Chief Justice Meagan Flynn commented on the various approaches emerging in other states since Oregon’s change. “And really, no two look alike,” Flynn said. “Every state looking at this is coming up with very, very state-specific approaches.”
