Most States Receive Failing Grade for Management of Foster Youth’s Federal Benefits

A report gives most states an F grade for failing to preserve the federal benefits of foster youth. The Children’s Advocacy Institute at the University of San Diego School of Law evaluated all 50 states, along with the District of Columbia. In the report, only a handful of states received an A grade for meeting a list of criteria. The research scored agencies on questions, such as, “does the sate require the agency to screen all children for potential federal benefits eligibility within 60 days of enacting care?”

States Urged to Enter Scaling Phase for GenAI to Maximize Benefits

“Now is the time for states to move into the scaling phase to realize the benefits of GenAI,” reports the National Association of State Chief Information Officers in a new report. Generative Artificial Intelligence and its Impact on State Government IT Workforces, released April 17 by NASCIO, surveyed and interviewed 49 chief information officers to create the publication. Other key takeaways from CIOs included: “At-scale rollout will also require talent beyond the traditional remit of CIOs, including experts in ethics, responsible AI practices, privacy and various aspects of law and legislation, and deep expertise in topics such as customer service, procurement, workforce development, and specific domains including health, human services, and transport.”

Ala. Senate Vote on Licensing Board Consolidation Bill Delayed

The Alabama Senate delayed a vote on a bill to consolidate 25 licensing boards into a new office, according to 1819 News on April 19. The bill proposes creating the Office of Occupational and Professional Licensing within the Department of Labor to provide “leadership, support and oversight to certain professional or occupation licensing boards operating within the state.” If passed, some of the boards included in the bill to consolidate include the Alabama Board of Examiners of Landscape Architects, State Board of Podiatry, Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers and the State Board of Auctioneers.
