Calif. Contractors Board Sting Results in 142 Legal Actions

During three undercover sting and sweep operations, the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) took 142 legal actions; the operations took place in South Lake Tahoe, Salinas and Redding—mainly for unlicensed and uninsured practices. The suspected unlicensed contractors came to sting locations to place bids on a variety of projects, from deck work to tree services. As a result of the sting, 40 legal actions were filed, with 32 people subject to misdemeanor charges, according to SouthTahoeNow.com.

N.C. Teachers Group Rejects Proposed License and Pay Changes

Members of a North Carolina teacher advocacy group criticized proposed changes to teacher pay and licensing. According to The Telegraph on August 9, the current model mainly rewards teachers financially based on years of experience. The proposed model rewards teachers based on performance. In regards to the proposal, Kiana Espinoza, a Wake County middle school teacher, said “we deserve to be paid for our experience, without jumping through hoops or worrying if this year’s paycheck will be different than next year’s.” Superintendent of Public Instruction Catherine Truitt supports the proposed changes.
