Federal funds from the American Rescue Plan to help support the child care industry ended on Sept. 30. Without those funds, researchers in June projected the closure of 70,000 programs, along with the loss of 232,000 related jobs. According to Route Fifty, some state child care agencies chose to replace those funds, while other states chose to end the funding entirely; “the impacts will vary widely around the country with officials in many states like Tennessee, Minnesota and the District of Columbia saying they will be spending hundreds of millions to soften the blow.”
In the 2023 State Occupational Licensing Index, Nebraska ranks 22nd nationally—with 1st the most burdensome. Of the 184 occupations that Nebraska creates minimum entry requirements to start working, 13 of those require licensure in 20 states or fewer nationally, according to the Knee Regulatory Research Center. Nebraska remains one of only five states to license land abstractors and psychological assistants, for example, and one of only 10 states to license animal breeders.
The Office of Management and Budget issued new draft guidance on October 27 to modernize FedRAMP; the OMB, according to FedScoop, “realizes it needs to enhance and better tailor the cloud authorization program to today’s cloud and security environment.” The OMB outlined four goals for modernizing FedRAMP; these include leveraging the shared infrastructure of the private sector and the federal government.
