State Cybersecurity Grant Program Launches, 60-Day Application Window

The Biden administration on September 16 launched a $1 billion grant program for state and local cybersecurity, according to StateScoop. The Department of Homeland Security issued a notice of funding opportunity for the grants, announcing a 60-day application window for states to submit plans for the four-year program. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency plan to oversee the grants. According to StateScoop, “The first year of funding technically covers the federal government’s 2022 fiscal year, a period that ends Sept. 30.”

FSMB Updates COVID Misinformation Policy

The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) recently updated their policy on “Professional Expectations Regarding Medical Misinformation and Disinformation.” The Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation (CLEAR) interviewed Katie Templeton, the chair of the Federation of State Medical Boards Ethics and Professional Committee. In the September 8 interview, Templeton said, “we feel strongly that state boards should retain their autonomy to regulate professional conduct and protect the public in their specific state or territory. State boards are the single best entity to protect the public, and this authority should not be negated.”

N.J. Legislation Proposes Licensing Home Repair Contractors

A New Jersey bill proposes that anyone providing home improvement or elevation services in New Jersey must obtain a license to practice. According to the New Jersey Monitor on September 16, the bill also proposes the creation of a nine-member state board to enforce those rules. Assemblyman Paul Moriarty, who chairs the consumer affairs panel, said “the state has failed to protect homeowners that have home repairs by not having a system in place to license home contractors and make sure that they have some level of expertise.”
