A national occupational licensing study ranks states by the average burdens for licensed occupations. License to Work: A National Study of Burdens from Occupational Licensing looks at factors such as exam fees and the number of exams, along with days lost for education and experience requirements. According to the study from the Institute for Justice, Nebraska ranked lowest for average burdens, requiring 114 days of education and experience, one exam and $92 in fees.

AI’s Impact on Healthcare—According to ChatGPT

ChatGPT predicts many “transformative” impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) on healthcare.  The list includes remote patient monitoring and telehealth, as well as enhanced medical imaging analysis, according to Becker’s Healthcare on May 16. ChatGPT concluded that “Collaboration between AI systems and healthcare professionals is crucial to achieve the optimal balance between technology and human expertise in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.”

Bill to dissolve S.C. Dept. of Health and Environment

A bill to dissolve the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) now heads to Gov. Henry McMaster for a signature, according to WISNews on May 15. If the governor signs the legislation, the bill dissolves the DHEC and creates two new agencies—the Department of Public Health and the Department of Environmental Services. The bill also instructs the state government to examine all agencies involved in public health.
