Considering a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling, Massachusetts’ attorney general said Massachusetts’ police chiefs can no longer deny or restrict gun licenses because they believe the person doesn’t have a “good reason” to carry. Attorney General Maura Healey offered the guidance July 1, following a decision overturning a New York gun permitting law; the law stated that New York residents needed to show proper cause or an actual need to carry a concealed handgun in public for self-defense. “Going forward, if an applicant is not a prohibited person and is not unsuitable, the applicant must be issued an unrestricted license to carry,” explained Healey in Western Mass News on July 5.
The Iowa Board of Pharmacy ruled that a pharmacy worker convicted of stealing from a charity, as well as defrauding a real estate investor, will still be allowed to work in the profession. According to the Iowa Capital Dispatch on July 5, Gregory Judas of Grimes is allowed to perform non-technical duties at an Iowa pharmacy. In September 2021, Judas pleaded guilty to mail fraud. The charge related to allegations that he took $120,000 from an investor for a fictitious retirement center in Ames; according to prosecutors, he spent the money on living expenses.
