Survey: Licensing Boards Play Critical Role in AI Adoption
A survey of U.S. voters found that the majority of those surveyed see licensing boards as best equipped to ensure the responsible adoption of AI for their profession. Seventy-two percent of voters see the licensing boards—already overseeing professional standards and ethics—as critical to public safety. “Given their expertise and public trust, boards are well-positioned to support lawmakers in creating responsible AI policy,” the survey notes. Exploring Public Perception of Professional Licensing and Artificial Intelligence, according to the Alliance for Responsible Professional Licensing, reveals three additional key findings.
Ala. Lawmakers Ask Pharmacy Board to Address ‘Significant’ Issues
Alabama lawmakers asked the Alabama Board of Pharmacy to address the 14 “significant issues” cited in a recent sunset report about the agency. The Alabama Department of Examiners of Public Accounts conducted the review, according to the Alabama Daily News on August 23. The report, for example, said that “In fiscal year 2023, the Board’s financial records indicated a sharp decline (71%) in the amount of revenue collected for fines and penalties. This decline corresponded with a sharp increase (594%) in the amount of revenue being collected as miscellaneous income. A review of revenues being recorded in these two categories revealed that the Board had shifted to recording the amounts collected as administrative costs/fines from Fines and Penalties to Miscellaneous Income.”
Pa. Implements the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact
Now out of state physicians licensed by a state or territory that participates in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact can apply to practice in Pennsylvania. According to The Progress News on August 26, Act 112 of 2016 authorized Pennsylvania to join the compact. To apply, these physicians must meet additional requirements, like a corresponding “letter of qualification.” Forty other states participate in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact.
