State Cybersecurity Aid Gets Boost from $1.7 Trillion Omnibus Bill

President Joe Biden signed the $1.7 trillion omnibus government spending package on December 29, according to FedScoop; the “spending package includes $1.3 billion for CISA’s cybersecurity programs, which represents a year-on-year increase of $230 million.” The bill, according to StateScoop, provides significant cyber aid to states.

Courts Not Mandated to Defer to State Agency Interpretations

The Supreme Court of Ohio on December 29 rejected the idea that state courts must defer to state agency interpretations of the law, according to Court News Ohio. The court clarified their position in a case dealing with the licensing of engineering firms. The court announced: “we reaffirm today that it is the role of the judiciary, not administrative agencies, to make the ultimate determination about what the law means. Thus, the judicial branch is never required to defer to an agency’s interpretation of the law.”
