State CIO Report Reveals Concerns About AI

A survey of state CIOs highlights their concerns related to the effects of artificial intelligence on their state workforce. The National Association of State Chief Information Officers posed the question to state CIOs: What concerns do you have regarding the impact of GenAI on your state government’s technology workforce? The 2024 NASCIO report, Generative artificial intelligence and its impact on state government IT workforces, listed the top 10 concerns; these included privacy issues, labor displacement and ethical concerns.

NY State Cannabis Board Announces Change in Licensing Evaluation

The New York State Cannabis Control Board approved several resolutions related to cannabis licensing. Measures enacted include extending provisional license periods, as well as enhancing enforcement powers, according to Harlem World on May 10. In addition, the CCB approved a resolution to authorize issuing a range of 104 adult-use cannabis licenses from microbusinesses to distributors.

Ga. Plans Innovation Lab to Test Emerging Tech, Like AI

Georgia state officials plan an innovation lab to pair new technologies, like artificial intelligence, with agency challenges. Nikhil Deshpande, Georgia’s chief digital and AI officer, sees the lab as a “sandbox environment” to test AI and other new applications, according to StateScoop on May 9. Deshpande also emphasized the importance of training state employees on the use of new technologies.
