Medical Licensure Compact Counts 42 Member Jurisdictions
The Interstate Medical Licensure Compact recently released their 2024 Annual Report. The Interstate Medical Licensure Compact Commission now includes 42 member jurisdictions, including 40 states, along with the Territory of Guam and the District of Columbia. The IMLCC also expects new legislation in at least five states. The report points to studies that analyze the impact of the IMLCC on expanded care, noting specifically the impact on rural and underserved areas.
HIPAA Called Not Enough for Health Care Security Needs
A panel of experts, during a recent webinar, advocated for stronger security controls for health care organizations, calling HIPPA not “strong enough” for health care’s cybersecurity needs. Keith Busby, acting CISO for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, said at the FedInsider webinar that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act fails to meet today’s challenges. Panelists argued for more rigorous standards, according to GovTech on November 1, such as National Institute of Standards and Technology Cybersecurity Framework or the HITRUST cybersecurity framework.
Mich. Bill Requires Licensure of Interior Designers
Michigan bills, introduced in October, propose licensing interior designers and imposing continuing education requirements on designers. Until 2014, Michigan required that interior designers register with the state; in 2013, legislation passed to repeal that requirement. According to CapCon, Lauren Earley of the American Society of Interior Designers says licensing designers “keeps Michigan’s economy competitive in the region.”
