La. Child Welfare System “Overburdened”
In a legislative hearing on September 6, that followed two recent child deaths from abuse and neglect, Louisiana legislators called for major reforms to the state’s child welfare systems. According to the Louisiana Illuminator, the meeting “covered problems the agency faces with heavy case loads for workers, staffing shortages and toxic work environments.”
Wis. DSPS Facing Staffing Issues, Licensing Delays
Wisconsin Public Radio interviewed Dan Hereth, Wisconsin Secretary of the Department of Safety and Professional Services, about licensing wait times and staffing constraints. According to WPR, “the agency recommends people apply for licenses up to 12 weeks ahead of when they’d need it.” According to Hereth, wait times for a license now average 45 days—a 40% improvement for the agency over past years. DSPS issues over 240 professional licenses.
