Minnesota’s teacher licensing board chose not to push for legislation to bring the state’s licensing laws into compliance with federal guidelines for students with disabilities, according to the Pioneer Press on December 16. A memo from the U.S. Department of Education on October 4 warned that some states license teachers that fail to qualify under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) supported an idea to send a “guidance document” to schools that appear out of compliance when they hire tier 1 or tier 2 teachers for special education.
Workforce moved from the number 7 slot last year to the number 3 slot in this year’s survey of state CIO priorities for 2023 from the National Association of State Chief Information Officers. On the StateScoop Priorities Podcast on December 15, Doug Robinson, executive director of NASCIO, said “with all those conversations we’ve been having about workforce and talent management, I was glad to see that moved up into a strong number three position.”
