$1 Billion in Cybersecurity Grants for States Expected in “Coming Months”

State and local governments expect to see $200 million worth of federal cybersecurity grant money this year, with another $800 million arriving over the next three years from the federal infrastructure law. “We know the big question that everybody has is when is the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) coming out. We do hope it will be out in the coming months. There are just some additional complexities with standing up a new grant program,” explains Alaina Clark, assistant director for stakeholder engagement at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), according to Government Technology on June 7.

Wash. Board Allows Axe-Throwing at Businesses with Liquor Licenses

The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board voted to let businesses with liquor licenses offer axe-throwing as an activity for customers. Business requests to add the popular activity prompted the change. Following a comment period, the board developed rules that require those liquor-licensed establishments that offer axe-throwing to create a safety operating plan for their business. According to the Center Square on June 9, these rules “are designed to minimize any mishaps that might occur when imbibing alcohol is combined with sharp-edged implements being hurled through the air.”

N.Y. Gives Nurse Practitioners Full Practice Authority

New York joins 24 other states, the District of Columbia, and two United States territories in adopting full practice authority legislation for nurse practitioners. Full practice authority gives nurse practitioners in New York the ability to “evaluate, test, diagnose, manage treatment, and prescribe medications for patients without needing to sign a contract agreement with a supervising physician,” according to Policy and Medicine on May 20. The legislation allows nurse practitioners with over 3,600 practice hours to practice independently in primary care; those with less than 3,600 hours need to complete their practice hours under a doctor.
