Nevada State Fire Marshal Case Study

Overview

The Nevada State Fire Marshal licenses the fire protection industry and handles applications for the retail sale of portable fire extinguishers. Companies must attain a license, and individuals must get certified to perform the work from the Nevada State Fire Marshal to sell, install or service any fire protection equipment. The fire marshal also handles complaints against the industry.

Permits processed annually: 6,000 to 7,000

Agency Transformation Phase: 2, Process Standards

Opportunity:

The Nevada State Fire Marshal manually processed all applications and correspondence, typing out the cards and licenses. In addition, they relied on spreadsheets to store and organize information.

Using these manual processes, along with the spreadsheets, took a lot of staff time and created the possibility for human error and duplicate data.

Solution:

GL Solutions helped the agency transition from a 100% manual system to a fully automated system with GL Suite regulatory software. An account manager works with the Nevada State Fire Marshal to guide them through the transition process.

GL Suite enables the agency to:

  • Ditch their manual processes and go paperless
  • Create correspondence templates to save time
  • Track the status of licenses
  • Manage an influx of licenses, especially around events
  • Meet state regulatory statutes
  • Use staff time efficiently and reduce staff overhead
  • Run reports to better understand their metrics and data
