A survey of U.S. voters reveals that only 1 in 3 support changes to licensing standards to address workforce shortages. A recent survey summary paper from the Alliance for Responsible Professional Licensing concludes that lowering licensing standards creates more risks than benefits. Sixty-four percent oppose lowering licensing standards for “high-impact professionals,” such as the ARPL workforce. ARPL professions include architects, landscape architects, engineers, surveyors and CPAs.
StateRAMP’s new task force plans on “leading the charge” towards greater framework harmonization, aiming to simplify compliance and understanding of CJIS standards. According to StateRAMP on July 15, the task force plans to focus on four main objectives; these include understanding conformance hardships and improved communication. CJIS sets security standards that criminal justice and non-criminal justice agencies must follow to access and protect criminal justice information.
Mississippi plans to review the state’s occupational regulations to help reduce the cost and burden to licensees. The Secretary of State’s Tackle the Tape initiative aims to review all 118,000 regulations by 2029, according to the Magnolia Tribune on August 9. Changes made in a recent meeting of Mississippi’s Occupational Licensing Review Commission included removing unnecessary fees for nurses.
