The GL Suite application is designed to support regulatory officials and members of the public regardless of visual impairment. Public-facing websites, developed to meet ADA standards, can be used with screen-reading software and other assistive technologies. So can GL Suite’s back-office system.
Lori Thompson is a licensing specialist with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy, which regulates people and facilities that ship or dispense drugs. As a lead for the agency’s front-office staff, Lori plays a crucial public-safety role by processing complaints.
Lori, who is visually impaired, navigates the back-office system using a third-party screen reader known as Job Access With Speech – JAWS for short. The current version of GL Suite is fully compatible with JAWS, which allows users to navigate by using hot keys rather than a mouse and provides spoken feedback.
“I now can swiftly navigate and perform my responsibilities in an efficient and timely manner,” says Thompson. “There are times when my navigation of the system is faster than my sighted peers.”
GL Solutions software follows ARIA (Accessibility for Rich Internet Application) standards and WCAG 2.0 level AA guidelines. It also complies with Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
